Description
The longest canal in England runs for 150 miles from the Thames at Brentford, and from Paddington Basin in central London, up the spine of southern England into the heart of Birmingham.
Created in 1929 by merging the Grand Junction Canal that opened in 1805 with eight smaller canals, the Grand Union Canal features 166 locks, including fine staircases at Foxton and Watford Gap, and long, dark tunnels at Blisworth and Braunston in Northamptonshire.
