Description
Connecting the Thames at Reading with Bristol, the K&A runs for 86 miles through 106 locks, including a flight of 29 at Devizes, and across the fine Dundas Aqueduct over the River Avon near Bath.
Built by engineer John Rennie the K&A opened in 1810. In 1852 it came into the hands of the Great Western Railway, boat traffic was restricted and it fell into disrepair and dereliction before restoration work that started in the 1960s was completed over thirty years later.
